Client Vision + Design Expertise = Superlative Living Space

As a sole proprietor designer located in Seattle, I request a dialog with you regarding your upcoming residential or remote facility project or initiative. With over 15 collective years experience in architecture, field construction, and remote logistics, I specialize in self-sufficient, elegant structures built specifically for remote settings– or apply the same attention to detail and conscientiousness to an urban infill application.

I employ a dynamic design process that is responsive to client- and project- specifics.  It is my professional ethic that no two projects are alike.  Furthermore, I hold a passionate resolve for projects that:

  • exceed client dreams by empowering their vision of what is possible of their project;
  • offer an augmented experience for the user, either through engagement, comfort, functionality, or spatial efficiency;
  • integrate into the natural & built surroundings respectfully;
  • abide by the vernacular (historical) precedent while flexible to accommodate inevitable cultural and contextual changes in the future;
  • and are constructed within the means of proven industry standards and the client’s budget.

Whether you’re preparing a new residence/addition or back yard cottage, seek a writing or yoga retreat, wish to establish a scientific research facility or cultural/natural interpretive center, or finally fulfill that dream of starting an off-grid winery or bed & breakfast, I can help you achieve your most ambitious project goals while existing in harmony with the surrounding natural environment. Every project’s site offers unique opportunities for passive solar/natural ventilation, and/or active energy-creating PV/wind/geothermal technologies. My experience includes all phases of design covering a broad set of project types from schools to multi-family housing while having worked for both small and large architectural firms. Yearning for adventure, I escaped the office life years ago and developed lead carpenter construction experience from remote research facilities in Antarctica and Greenland to helping build the new US Embassy in Beijing. Opening my business in 2007, I’ve taken projects from conception to permitting, and even built a vegetated roof residential project in Seattle at the owner’s request. I’m familiar with the city’s permitting process and pursue the most progressive certifications in sustainable design, including the US Green Building Council (recently finished a LEED Gold residence), and stay abreast with new practices and technologies as they evolve. Together, these amount to an exciting, seamless, and thorough service for you. I take-on only one project at a time to ensure design integrity and client satisfaction, keep to small projects (as little as 200sf carports to a 4,200sf retirement commune near Bellingham), and offer low-overhead rates by being an independent, work-from-home-studio service for you.

Feel free to peruse the web site to see what services I offer, the process you can expect working with me as your designer, past projects as they relate to your project’s vision, and the various references & commendations I’ve earned while serving past clients.  I offer free consultations via phone and site visits to ensure we’re a proper fit.
